FINCHEM TALKS SOFTLY ON TPA, BUT WEISKOPF CARRIES BIG STICK

PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem said that he's "not
opposed" to the fledgling Tour Players Association (TPA),
but he "just favors the PGA Tour," according to Blauvelt &
Potter of the USA TODAY. Finchem said in Atlanta, "I just
happen to believe that the PGA Tour works very well for the
players. It is a trade association ... no different than
the American Medical Association" (USA TODAY, 10/29).
A WEISKOPF, HEY: On GOLFWEB, Tom Weiskopf writes that
he is "against" the TPA, calling its "complaining" members a
group of "have-nots." Weiskopf: "Who are these guys? What
have they ever done? They're the guys who don't do
anything. It's the power of mediocrity trying to prevail
again. They should concentrate all their effort on trying
to improve and win tournaments" (GOLFWEB, 10/26).
