FRANCHISE NOTES

NET GAINS, STATE LOSSES: The NBA Board of Governors
unanimously approved the transfer of the Nets ownership to
"a consortium" led by philanthropist Raymond Chambers and
business exec Lewis Katz. The sale of the team was
originally agreed to on July 1 (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 10/29).
OTHER NOTES: A $10M lawsuit brought by artist Frederick
Bouchat against the Ravens, claiming the team stole his
design for its logo, went to jury yesterday after both sides
presented closing arguments (Mult., 10/29)....NFL Oilers
Owner Bud Adams said that the team "may beat" its December
26 target date for announcing a new name and unveiling a new
logo. The name and logo will be announced during an Oilers'
home game (TENNESSEAN, 10/28)....CA-based business Exec Art
Savage completed the purchase of the AAA Vancouver Canadians
from Japan Sports Systems when $8.5M was placed in escrow.
Finding suitable funding and a stadium site might keep the
PCL team in Vancouver beyond the '99 season (PROVINCE,
10/28). Savage would like the see the team playing in a new
Sacramento ballpark by 2000 (SACRAMENTO BEE, 10/28).
