MARKETPLACE ROUND-UP

          The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued its
     400,000th design patent to Nike for its Air Jordan XIV shoe
     at a presentation at the National Press Club in Washington,
     DC, yesterday (Nike).  The shoe, which goes on sale next
     month for about $140-150, is "modeled" after Jordan's
     Ferrari (USA TODAY, 10/28)....While the Pro Football Hall of
     Fame in Canton wants the 3-year-old kangaroo-skin Nike
     Tiempo shoes worn by Broncos K Jason Elam when he tied the
     NFL's longest FG record, Elam said that "it may be tough" to
     give them up.  Elam: "It's the only pair I have, and you
     can't even get them anymore" (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 10/28).
          NOTES: Bud Light has dropped its title sponsorship of
     the St. Louis Formula One Grand Prix boat races after an 11-
     year run.  Six-time Grand Prix winner Bill Seebold: "I'm
     very disappointed, and I'm a little hurt over it" (POST-
     DISPATCH, 10/27)....The "rapidly growing" three-year-old CA-
     based Arbor Snowboards has signed 60-year-old surfing "icon
     Mickey Munoz to endorse a signature line of snowboards." 
     The campaign, which will launch in November issues of
     "several alternative culture and snowboarding publications
     ... [is] aimed at ... Gen Xers" (AD AGE, 10/26 issue).
