ISLANDERS RETURN TO NASSAU SHOWING A COMMITMENT TO FANS

Islanders President David Seldin said that the team
would move its corporate offices back to the Nassau Coliseum
"within the next two weeks," according to Thomas Frank of
NEWSDAY. The announcement came on Thursday, one day "after
the team attracted an estimated 3,000 fans to the 16,297-
seat Coliseum." But Islanders Dir of Media Relations Chris
Botta said that attendance "was not a factor in the
decision." Seldin: "It's a gesture to our fans, and to help
us improve our quality of service" (NEWSDAY, 10/23).
BANKRUPTCY GUIDELINES: In Pittsburgh, Dejan Kovacevic
wrote that the Penguins' legal advice in declaring for
Chapter 11 was that the NHL "would be powerless to take any
action once bankruptcy had been declared," and that the
league's "bark in August was far worse than any potential
bite." The NHL "strongly refutes that contention" and
"insists that Commissioner Gary Bettman could have taken
over the franchise had he so chosen" (POST-GAZETTE, 10/25).
