NAMES IN THE NEWS

          KEITH OLBERMANN comments on the new film, "New Jersey
     Turnpikes," which chronicles life in the former ABA, during
     his "Just a Minute" radio segment on the SportsFan Radio
     Network.  Olbermann: "KELSEY GRAMMAR is excellent in it,
     playing against type as a sincere, gentle general manager.
     ... It is very funny.  But it is overwhelmed by an
     absolutely astounding acting debut.  The man playing the
     team's first coach is a natural. ... Sheer brilliance." 
     Olbermann is referring to former Eagles and Jets Coach RICH
     KOTITE (THE DAILY)....ALEXI LALAS will open for HOOTIE AND
     THE BLOWFISH for eight shows during the group's upcoming
     European tour (SportsNet)..."Baywatch" is teaming with
     NASCAR for a future episode in which DAVID HASSELHOFF gets
     behind the wheel for a NASCAR race.  Hasselhoff, on why the
     show chose NASCAR: "NASCAR racing has the same appeal that
     'Baywatch' does.  It appeals to everybody in the family. 
     There's something in it for everybody."  The episode will
     air in early '99 (E!, 10/21)....NHL Board of Governors Chair
     and Flames Vice Chair HARLEY HOTCHKISS was invested into the
     Alberta Order of Excellence yesterday in Edmonton (NHL).
