ELWAY OUT OF UNIFORM AND INTO TV COMMERCIAL FOR STADIUM

          Broncos QB John Elway will be featured in a 30-second
     TV ad debuting Saturday, and will be "encouraging voters in
     the six-county metro area to approve a tax to help build" a
     new stadium for the Broncos, according to Charlie Brennan of
     the ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS.  Elway is not in uniform for the
     ad, and Citizens For A New Stadium Campaign Dir Bill Artist
     said that Elway "participated ... entirely of his own
     volition."  Artist: "He's the epitome of what we view as a
     role model and a great citizen" (ROCKY MTN NEWS, 10/23).  
          STRETCHING THE TRUTH? Also in Denver, Mark Obmascik
     takes "a critical look" at the CFANS stadium ad featuring
     Broncos Head Coach Mike Shanahan, and wrote that Shanahan
     "makes several claims that are out of bounds" in the spot. 
     The ad has Shanahan answering various questions on the
     stadium referendum in a mock press conference, taking
     questions from reporters (DENVER POST, 10/22).
