EL NFL ES MUY BUENO! "MNF" BEGINS SPANISH BROADCASTING

ABC will begin broadcasting "Monday Night Football" in
Spanish for the first time in its 29-year history, according
to Lisa de Moraes of the WASHINGTON POST. Beginning with
its Steelers-Chiefs telecast Monday, ABC Sports will offer
Secondary Audio Programming (SAP), an audio subcarrier "that
can be received by viewers with stereo" TV sets, in Spanish.
ESPN Int'l commentators Alvaro Martin and Roberto Abramowitz
will call the game. Only viewers in markets where the local
ABC affil "chooses to transmit it" will be able to receive
the Spanish feed for "MNF," and so far, 17 of the 25 ABC
stations that cover 75% of the country's Hispanic audience
will "carry the feature starting Monday." Around half of
the 7.74 million Hispanic homes in the country own a TV set
with SAP capabilities (WASHINGTON POST, 10/21).
