Penguins co-Owner Howard Baldwin said that he'd be
"crazy" not to sell the team if the right offer came along,
according to Dejan Kovacevic of the PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE.
Baldwin: "How can you sign a piece of paper that gives you
the right to lose millions every year? If somebody else
wants to be in that situation, let them step forward. You
know, we don't want to move the team, but it's tough to
operate like this." Baldwin added that any potential owner
would have to be "someone with local ties and someone who
would do right by the franchise," but added, "Believe me,
there's nobody out there." Kovacevic writes that one
"possible suitor" would be SMG (POST-GAZETTE, 10/21).
MARIO ON BOARD: Also in Pittsburgh, Robert Dvorchak
reports that former Penguins C Mario Lemieux and SMG
Pittsburgh were named co-chairs of a seven-member panel
consisting of "many" of the Penguins "largest creditors."
The committee can "examine the team's books and will
participate in drawing up a plan to pay off the team's
debts." Other members of the creditors' committee include
Fox Sports Pittsburgh and former Penguins' employee William
Craig (PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE, 10/21).
