SYDNEY SEEKS AMERICAN SPONSORSHIPS FOR 2000 OLYMPICS

The Sydney 2000 Olympic Games "may get help from
American companies that sponsor" the USOC to help alleviate
its "budget shortfall," according to Liz Mullen of the
SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. USOC Managing Dir of Business
Affairs John Krimsky said the USOC "has been helping Sydney
organizers line up U.S. sponsors." Krimsky: "What we are
trying to do in Sydney is attract some of our American
sponsors to become involved in Sydney if they have
activities there." He added that USOC sponsorship deals
"will be announced in the next 30 days," and that United
Airlines "is among the companies signing deals
(SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 10/19 issue). In other USOC news,
ESPN Internet Division Dir of League Services Todd Sims said
ESPN Internet Ventures "is negotiating" with the USOC "to
provide information about Olympic sports through the
ESPN.com Web site." Sims said that any agreement is likely
to be a "no-cash deal" (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 10/19).
