Broncos Owner Pat Bowlen told Adam Schefter of the
DENVER POST that his "biggest problem" with the upcoming
stadium referendum "is the personalization" of the process.
Bowlen: "The opponents are making this a vote about me, how
Pat Bowlen gets richer, and Pat Bowlen wears a fur coat, and
Pat Bowlen is a Canadian." Bowlen said that the Broncos do
"not make a great deal of money" and any revenue the new
stadium generates "goes right into the team." Bowlen said
his "highest anxiety" is if the stadium vote fails: "What
happens on Nov. 4 if we have a negative vote? Probably not
very much, but I know it's only a short time until bad
things start to happen." Bowlen: "The other thing that
galls me a little bit here is that if the Denver Broncos are
worth $250 million ... and I'm going to put $130 million
into the new stadium, I've got a $380 million investment.
It's just that simple. If you had that investment in a
factory, you'd be looking for some return. Or else you'd be
looking to sell the factory. ... The day that I can't be
competitive in this business, which is just over the horizon
without a new stadium, then why would I want to be in the
