S.F. CHRONICLE REPORTS THAT 49ERS STADIUM PROPOSAL A GO

Interim 49ers President Larry Thrailkill and S.F. Mayor
Willie Brown "plan to announce this week that they finally
have a development team for the long-stalled stadium
project," according to Matier & Ross of the S.F. CHRONICLE.
John Wasson, who helped oversee stadium construction for the
D'Backs and arena construction for the Cavs, will head the
49ers project. He will be joined by the law firm of S.F.-
based Brobeck Phleger & Harrison, and by accountants from
     N.Y.-based Ernst & Young (S.F. CHRONICLE, 10/19).
STATE OF THE 49ERS: In an interview with Matier & Ross,
Thrailkill said that 49ers co-Owner Denise DeBartolo York
wants her brother, Eddie, to regain control of the team, and
that despite the "tight schedule," he thinks the stadium can
be ready to host the 2003 Super Bowl (S.F. CHRONICLE,
10/19). On his "NFL Report," Chris Mortensen: "It may not
be until the year 2000 when Ed DeBartolo regains control of
the 49ers, but when he does return, sources say he'll be
somewhat strapped for cash -- yet with an overwhelming
desire to have fun again as an owner without any
interference from alter egos" (ESPN, 10/17).
