DOES THE "NFL" STAND FOR "NATIONAL FEELGOOD LEAGUE"?

The NFL will contribute over $1M to rebuild football
fields in 15 cities as part of its '98 youth football
development program. The Local Initiatives Support
Corporation will partner with the NFL in the football fields
initiative, which will provide non-profit, neighborhood-
based groups with financing and technical assistance to
improve local football fields. Refurbishing will begin
later this year and fields will be dedicated at public
ceremonies during the spring and summer of '99 (NFL).
GET RID OF PAT PATRIOT! NEVER! In celebration of the
25th anniversary of the partnership between the NFL and the
United Way, fans who donate old NFL apparel will receive up
to a 25% discount on new apparel at more than 2,000
participating stores. The old apparel will be donated to
local United Way charities. Full-page color ads in USA
Today and People magazine, as well as in-store window
posters and POP materials, will support the program (NFL).
SUPER PAYMENT: San Diego Youth and Community Services,
an inner-city youth agency on "a shoestring budget for
almost 30 years," received a $1M grant the NFL awards to
Super Bowl host cities. The agency opened a new computer
center with the donation (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 10/14).
TAP THE ROCKIES: NFL Int'l signed a two-year pact with
Coors to sponsor NFL activities in the U.K. Coors will
sponsor U.K. Channel 5's broadcasts of NFL games and will be
the official shirt sponsor of the Scottish Claymores (NFL).
