UNION BUSTING! WNBA CALLS NBPA "EXTREME" AND "DESTRUCTIVE"

          The WNBA sent a letter to its players which said the
     NBPA leadership of their proposed union is "extreme and
     destructive," according Scott Soshnick of BLOOMBERG.  In a
     four-page letter dated September 17, WNBA President Val
     Ackerman said the NBPA "has shown that it will not hesitate
     to disrupt or stop the operation of a league" to gain
     negotiating leverage.  NBPA Exec Dir Billy Hunter wasn't
     available to comment, but a source said the union will
     respond with its own letter to the players saying, "The
     WNBA's aggressive campaign to block the NBPA from
     representing you and the other WNBA players raises some
     disturbing questions, the big one being, what are they
     trying to hide?" (Scott Soshnick, BLOOMBERG NEWS, 9/26).
