NAMES IN THE NEWS

          Broncos QB JOHN ELWAY will have his name on 20 Denver-
     area car dealerships owned by Republic Industries.  Republic
     will also launch a "one-price sales policy" as a model for
     all 355 of its stores.  Fred Emich, whose name is currently
     on 13 Republic dealerships in Denver: "We came into it with
     the idea of having one brand, and you had to pick somebody. 
     And it's logical because John Elway is such a big name"
     (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 9/24).....NV State Athletic Commission
     Chair DR. ELIAS GHANEM and Vice Chair DR. JAMES NAVE said
     that they "will vote to reject MIKE TYSON's request to
     return to the ring unless he can explain his alleged assault
     of two men following a traffic accident in Maryland last
     month" (WASHINGTON POST, 9/25)....Aerosmith lead singer
     STEVEN TYLER threw out the first pitch at last night's
     Expos-Cardinals game at Busch Stadium (THE DAILY)....Cowboys
     QB TROY AIKMAN, on his post-playing career: "I'd like to be
     involved in owning a team; though, I don't know that my
     means will allow me to do that" (DALLAS MORNING NEWS,
     9/25)....JOE DIMAGGIO and TOMMY LASORDA are among those set
     to attend the 20th Anniversary celebration of the National
     Italian American Sports Hall of Fame this weekend
     (NIASHOF).....Disney Chair MICHAEL EISNER, talking to Katie
     Couric on "Today," on Disney's current position: "We're
     building for the future ... We're building ESPN Zones across
     the country ... We bought the NFL because we wanted to
     compete with NBC ... We're back" ("Today," NBC, 9/25).
