PEPSI STUFF: PepsiCo will use the World Series on Fox
"to launch its estimated" $50M campaign for Pepsi One, its
newest diet cola (AD AGE, 9/21). BRANDWEEK puts the media
push for Pepsi One at $15M, with the "hype" debuting during
MLB's League Championships Series' (BRANDWEEK, 9/21).
DELIVERING MORE: UPS and the NFL "reportedly have
agreed to terms on a sponsorship renewal." The five-year-
old deal "had lapsed this season," but SPORTSBUSINESS
JOURNAL's Andy Bernstein reports that UPS "will relaunch
NFL-themed promotions in time for the Super Bowl."
Bernstein also reports that "some NBA sponsors are still
moving ahead with their NBA marketing plans" despite the
ongoing lockout. Sprite shot an ad last week featuring Kobe
Bryant and Grant Hill (SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL, 9/21 issue).
ON THE WAY TO COOPERSTOWN: The National Baseball Hall
of Fame signed a multi-year deal with NY-based SportsLink to
assist the HOF in developing new marketing initiatives and
promotions. SportsLink will also look to expand educational
outreach programs and corporate sponsorship support (NBHOF).
AND TO CANTON: Visa USA kicked off a national fan
search for its inaugural "Visa Hall of Fans" exhibit at the
Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH. The "Ultimate Fan"
from each team will be honored in Canton in January '99,
when the new fan exhibit will be unveiled (Visa USA).
OTHER NOTES: Columbia Sportswear will sponsor and
provide apparel for athletes in "No Man's Land," an all-
women's skiing/snowboarding film by filmmaker Christian
Begin (Columbia)....A suit filed by former Dodgers P Don
Newcombe, a recovering alcoholic, against Adolph Coors Co.
"for using his image without permission" in Killian's Irish
Red beer ads "is headed to court." Newcombe claims Coors
used his likeness in an SI ad (BLOOMBERG NEWS, 9/23)....LA-
based No Limit Sports Management has signed Celtics G Ron
Mercer and Cavs G Derek Anderson to its roster of clients.
No Limit Sports was founded by recording artist and producer
Percy "Master P" Miller. No Limit VP/Finance & Business
