MOLDED OUT OF CLAY: FORD JR. TO RUN MOTOR COMPANY, LIONS

WILLIAM CLAY FORD JR., 41, a great grandson of HENRY
FORD, was named Chair of the Ford Motor Co., replacing ALEX
TROTMAN who will retire a year earlier than expected,
according to Keith Bradsher of the N.Y. TIMES. Ford Jr.
said that he would continue to run the NFL Lions, which his
"ailing" father WILLIAM CLAY FORD owns, "but that he would
devote most of his time to Ford" (N.Y. TIMES, 9/12). In
Detroit, Daniel Howes reported that Ford Jr. will control
Ford's strategic direction and all key functions of the
     company without "shouldering day-to-day executive
responsibility for company affairs" (DETROIT NEWS, 9/13).
