AUSSIE-RULES: RAFTER WIN BOOSTS FOX SPORTS' EXPOSURE, MATE!

Patrick Rafter won the U.S. Open men's singles
championship yesterday. Rafter wore a Fox Sports patch on
the right sleeve of his Reebok shirt as part of his existing
deal with Fox Sports Australia. Fox Sports Australia has
been sponsoring the Aussie-native all year as part of its
continued coverage of the ATP Tour (THE DAILY). In N.Y.,
Johnson, MacIntosh & Coyne reported that U.S. Open officials
"have been inundated with requests" for the Ray Ban poster
advertising its "Daddy-O" sunglasses, which features Rafter
in "shades and little else" (N.Y. POST, 9/13).
SHOULD DAVENPORT BE AN ENDORSEMENT TARGET? In N.Y.,
Phil Mushnick writes on U.S. Open women's singles champion
Lindsay Davenport. Because Davenport is "not particularly
glamorous" and not "romantically linked to an NHL star or
even a WNBA star," and "because she lacks all the modern
essentials of tennis and TV, the outlook for Davenport
becoming an overnight endorsement sensation is rather
bleak." Mushnick writes, however, that Davenport is "just a
real good, real honest, extremely devoted tennis pro. You
know, the kind who's either ignored or ridiculed on
SportsCenter" (N.Y. POST, 9/14). Davenport was interviewed
today on "CBS This Morning" (THE DAILY).
