FRANCHISE NOTES

HUNT HAS NO REGRETS: Chiefs Owner Lamar Hunt, on
withdrawing his bid for the Royals on Tuesday: "We and
(Western Resources) agreed on what was a logical offer to
make, and we have no regrets and obviously no hard feelings,
by any means" (K.C. STAR, 8/27). In K.C., columnist Jason
Whitlock writes that Royals bidder Miles Prentice is "the
last man standing because the sale of the Royals,
unfortunately, became more about money than finding the
right owner. ... [N]ow we're supposed to trust Prentice on
blind faith or because he was the only bidder desperate
enough to pay an inflated price" (K.C. STAR, 8/27)....Hunt,
on possibly owning an AFL team: "We have talked to [the AFL]
and ... as far as I know, they are pursuing the idea of
having us. We're intrigued by the idea, though I don't know
if anything will come of it" (K.C. STAR, 8/27).
NOTES: For the Bruins' 75th season this year, any fan
who turns 75 years old during the season will receive two
free tickets to a game (BOSTON GLOBE, 8/27)....In Toronto,
talks "are under way to extend" interim CEO Richard Peddie's
contract with Maple Leaf Gardens. Sources "indicated
there's a strong chance a new contract for Peddie will be
completed in September" (TORONTO SUN, 8/27)....In MN, Sid
Hartman writes to "look for Mike Veeck and Clark Griffith to
make an official bid to buy the Twins from Carl Pohlad
before" the September 14 deadline (STAR TRIBUNE, 8/27).
