PEPSI'S DEAL TO HELP PAY THE BILLS IN BUFFALO WORTH $3M-PLUS

The Bills' four-year deal naming Pepsi its official
soft drink while granting PepsiCo exclusive pouring rights
at its stadium is worth "slightly more" than $3M, beginning
with a $350,000 payment to the Bills this season and
"similar payments in subsequent seasons," according to Chet
Bridger of the BUFFALO NEWS. The remaining compensation is
in "soft money" that Pepsi will spend marketing the team.
Elements of the marketing plan include printing the team's
schedules and a ticket hotline number on soda cans in
upstate N.Y. In other deals, the Bills have linked with
McDonald's as its official fast-food restaurant and Xerox as
its official imaging company (BUFFALO NEWS, 8/23).
DISSED BY DAVE? Wendy's has named Coca-Cola its
exclusive soft-drink supplier for the next 10 years,
"dealing a setback to PepsiCo Inc.'s nascent efforts to
breach Coke's dominance in the sale of fountain-dispensed
soft drinks" (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 8/24).
