ADIDAS INKS PACT WITH UCLA; EYES SIDE OF RICE IN 49ERS DEAL?

adidas America reached a six-year sports marketing
partnership with UCLA to provide equipment and apparel to
UCLA's 21 intercollegiate teams in a deal to begin next
July. UCLA becomes the fifth and final all-school
partnership for adidas, joining Notre Dame, Univ. of TN,
Univ. of NE and Northwestern Univ (adidas). Reebok had
provided apparel for UCLA, and BRANDWEEK's Terry Lefton
reports that adidas beat out Nike and Reebok for the deal.
A source told Lefton that adidas was "offering less cash and
promising better service and integration with the business
school internships, marketing dollars and intramural
involvement." In addition to UCLA, Lefton adds that adidas
has also "wooed" the 49ers from Reebok and now has landed
     two "high-visibility" CA-based teams (BRANDWEEK, 8/24).
