MEDIA NOTES

          In Boston, Howard Manly floats Barry Diller as among
     the bidders for Red Sox broadcasting rights.  Diller owns
     Boston's WHSH-TV (BOSTON GLOBE, 8/21)....While financial
     terms were not disclosed, "some observers said it was
     possible" that ABC paid up to $100M for WMVP-AM in Chicago,
     which will become ESPN Radio's flagship station (HOLLYWOOD
     REPORTER, 8/21)....In Baltimore, Milton Kent writes that
     Ahmad Rashad's interview in the current issue of Playboy
     "provides some rather distressing evidence that Rashad has
     lost any sense of journalistic perspective if, in fact, he
     ever had it."  Rashad says that he and Michael Jordan go off
     alone before a game "just laughing and talking and hanging
     out."  Rashad: "I suppose the sports press would hate me
     even more than they already do if they knew that.  They're a
     tough fraternity, and I'm not a member even yet" (Baltimore
     SUN, 8/21).....Former Blues player and assistant coach Joe
     Micheletti was named analyst for Fox Sports NY's Islanders
     coverage (FSNY)....Sonics radio announcer Kevin Calabro will
     return for his second season of calling Univ. of WA Huskies
     football games on Fox Sports Northwest (FSNW).
