AS RED DAWNS ON VIKINGS, IS ROGER HEADRICK OVER AND OUT?

Red McCombs officially closed the deal on his
acquisition of the Vikings yesterday, according to Souhan &
Banks of the Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE. Shortly thereafter,
Vikings VP/Marketing & Development Stew Widdess resigned,
"and there were signs pointing to the imminent ouster of
outgoing CEO Roger Headrick." McCombs Enterprises President
Gary Woods assumed Headrick's former title of team President
yesterday while finalizing the $206M wire transfer from
McCombs to the outgoing 10-person ownership board. Woods
then met with Headrick. He did not dismiss him, but "did
not rule out the possibility such a move could be made today
or by early next week" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 8/21). In
St. Paul, Tom Powers reports that Widdess "had been told by
Woods and McCombs that they weren't happy with the marketing
operation" (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 8/21). Woods said that
     Vikings VP/Administration & Team Operations Jeff Diamond's
role "will probably increase" (PIONEER PRESS, 8/21).
