FOOTBALL IN L.A., PART II: IRVINE GROUP FOCUSES ON STADIUM

Former NFL player Anthony Davis's attempt to bring the
NFL to Irvine, CA, was examined by Todd Harmonson of the
ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, who wrote that Davis, his partners
and the City of Irvine "are serious about making this work.
They say they have the best stadium site in the country, one
that would be perfect for the NFL if the league is willing
to give Orange County another try after the debacle that was
the Rams' departure after the 1994 season." Davis, the
frontman in his group, and his partners with the Southern
California Sports Group say they have lined up investors
with $500M to finance the project. But the proposal is for
a stadium only, with no ownership group attached. Davis:
"There are people calling us, but you don't want to put the
cart before the horse. That's because the issue the NFL
wants to deal with is the stadium. They want to go stadium,
then ownership" (ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, 8/19).
