CBS SINGHING IN THE RAIN: PGA RATING HIGHEST SINCE '86

          CBS Sports' final round coverage of the '98 PGA
     Championship Sunday earned a 6.1/14 overnight, the highest
     final round rating since '93's 6.6 and the highest-rated
     sports broadcast of the weekend.  The net's third round
     coverage on Saturday drew a 4.9/13, its highest overnight
     since '86's 4.9.  The third round was up 9% from last year's
     4.5/12 and the final round was up 2% from '97's 6.0/14.  The
     tournament's two-day average earned a 5.5/13, up 4% from
     last year's 5.3/13 and the highest since at least '86 (CBS).
          CHIP SHOT: In San Diego, Fritz Quindt: "How dry would
     CBS's PGA be without Gary McCord?  Take Jim Nantz-Ken
     Venturi's melodramatics, please; I'll take McCord's ad-lib
     as Tiger Woods hit over a green and into the bush -- 'Your
     mileage may vary'" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 8/17).
