AND SO IT GOES: LIGHTNING TO FEATURE BILLY JOEL AMONG OTHERS

Lightning officials "are striving to make their team's
home one of the most aesthetically appealing in the nation,"
as the Ice Palace will get a $4M "makeover," according to
Roy Cummings of the TAMPA TRIBUNE. The "biggest change"
will be the scoreboard, which is being refitted with Sony
vision boards that will "in essence, turn the unit into a
Sony Jumbotron." There will also be video panels on the
inner walls of the "highest traffic areas" of the arena, and
brightly colored tapestries will hang from the concourse
ceilings. Team President Billy McGehee: "We'll have about
100 to 150 of those banners, and they'll feature people like
Billy Joel and Elton John and even guys like Wayne Gretzky."
The Lightning "also are considering" adding a cigar bar and
a brew house (Roy Cummings, TAMPA TRIBUNE, 8/18).
