parred" its final round PGA Championship coverage (USA
TODAY, 8/17)....In Chicago, Michael Hirsley writes that WGN
"looks both lucky and smart" for "pulling four Cubs games
back to WGN from cable channel CLTV." The first of the four
was yesterday's 2-1 win over the Astros (CHICAGO TRIBUNE,
8/17)....CBC hockey analyst Greg Millen was named CTV Sports
Net's lead hockey studio analyst (TORONTO SUN, 8/15).
NOTES: In N.Y., Bob Raissman reported that the Baseball
Writers Association of America "has concluded its
investigation" of N.Y. Post baseball columnist Joel Sherman,
who had reportedly "threatened" Mets GM Steve Phillips with
negative publicity if he didn't "take care of" Post Mets
beat writer David Waldstein. Newsday's Marty Noble, who
made the allegations against Sherman, also said that Sherman
"implied" he might "use his position as chairman of the
writers' New York chapter against the Mets." The BBWAA
found "no merit to the charges" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 8/16)....
Missouri Sports Radio, which owns KFNS-AM, "is trying to
acquire" KZMM-FM, which has a stronger signal, for its

     stations" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 8/15).
