MLB: In N.Y., Phil Mushnick, on MLB raising post-season
ticket prices: "Gouging? Some might call this supply-and-
demand capitalism, extreme, but nonetheless the American
way. But it's gouging. Plain and simple." One N.Y. media
exec: "Our biggest advertisers expect to be handed good
seats to playoff and World Series games. We budget x-amount
of money for such tickets, and we anticipate an increase
from regular-season costs. But we didn't expect anything
like this." Mushnick: "Wouldn't that serve sports right, if
even corporations began to balk at the cost of tickets?"
(N.Y. POST, 8/16). In Boston, Peter Gammons: "Granted, it's
the World Series, but when baseball is still in the process
of recovery, was it really smart to jump the ticket prices
to $150?" (BOSTON GLOBE, 8/16). In Philadelphia, Jim
Salisbury wrote under the header, "Hike In Price Of Series
Tickets Irks Players" (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 8/16).
