          Cablevision's CHARLES and JAMES DOLAN paid $160M "in
     stock and cash" to buy a chain of movie theaters in NY and
     NJ, giving them "more places to sell tickets and promote a
     new generation of Cablevision products" (N.Y. POST, 8/14).
     ...DC United coach BRUCE ARENA "has become the leading
     candidate to coach the U.S. national soccer team and likely
     will be offered the job in the next week" (WASHINGTON POST,
     8/14)....NCAA President CEDRIC DEMPSEY will have heart
     surgery Monday to replace an aortic valve (K.C. STAR, 8/14).
     ...Director BARRY SONNENFELD of "Men In Black," is looking
     at possibly directing WILL SMITH in the lead role of "Power
     and Grace," a MUHAMMAD ALI biopic (DAILY VARIETY, 8/14).
     ...In N.Y., Cindy Adams reports that KEVIN COSTNER's new
     baseball movie, involving the Yankees, will be filmed in
     Chicago, after Yankees Owner GEORGE STEINBRENNER turned down
     the film's request to shoot in Yankee Stadium (N.Y. POST,
     8/14)....N.Y. DAILY NEWS Food Critic Daniel Young gave
     MICHAELS JORDAN'S STEAKHOUSE in Grand Central Station one
     star.  Young: "Great Setting, but menu ... is on the wrong
     track" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 8/14)....Packers QB BRETT FAVRE and
     Vikings QB BRAD JOHNSON will have a QB "Face-Off" between
     periods at the October 3 NHL Ducks-Predators exhibition game
     in Milwaukee.  The Packers and Vikings meet the following
     Monday night (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL-SENTINEL, 8/13).
