MILCHAN SEEKS TO PUT HOLLYWOOD STAMP ON WTA TOURNAMENTS

Regency Enterprises Chair ARNON MILCHAN's nine-year,
$120M deal with the Corel WTA Tour for worldwide TV rights
is examined by Brad Wolverton in BUSINESS WEEK. Milchan
"figures that by going Hollywood with the tour -- and
promoting the hottest-looking players -- he can heighten the
game's appeal and collect much more than he paid from TV
outlets." Wolverton writes his "timing may be impeccable,"
as a "gaggle of teenage superstars have burst onto the tour
... leaving men's tennis in the dust." Milchan guaranteed
the WTA Tour $13M a year, and so far, he's signed a $3M-a-
year deal with Eurosport, and "is close" to an estimated
$1M-a-year deal with another group of European broadcasters.
He also has a $2M deal with a Japanese outlet. And in "the
next few months, the tour expects to announce a sizable deal
with ESPN and Fox" (BUSINESS WEEK, 8/17).
