Campbell Soup "is switching" its spokesperson lineup
and will feature a trio of Broncos players after "taking a
pass" on Packers DE Reggie White, who appeared in ads last
year, according to Judann Pollack of AD AGE. White will be
replaced in the new Chunky Soup spots, slated to debut this
September, by Broncos QB John Elway, RB Terrell Davis and DE
Neil Smith. Campbell Soup said that its new advertising
strategy is "to feature current Super Bowl champions," and
Pollack reports that "consistent with" the new philosophy,
White "is out" (AD AGE, 7/27). Packers GM Ron Wolf visited
the Jets' training camp yesterday. Wolf, when asked about
White's controversial remarks about homosexuals and ethnic
groups: "Everybody's entitled to their opinion, but
sometimes it's time to shut your mouth" (N.Y. TIMES, 7/28).
MORE PIGSKIN PITCHERS: AD AGE's Judann Pollack reports
that another company set to feature NFL players in its
marketing lineup this fall is Procter & Gamble, which is
filming new spots for its Pringles brand featuring Lions RB
Barry Sanders and Patriots QB Drew Bledsoe (AD AGE, 7/27).
