SOUTH FL NEWS: KEEP SMILEY'N B/C YOU GOT ANOTHER EXTENSION

          Marlins President Don Smiley's "inability to raise
     enough money to buy the club again has delayed his purchase
     of the team," according to Barry Jackson of the MIAMI
     HERALD.  Marlins Owner Wayne Huizenga has given Smiley
     another deadline extension to raise money.  Meanwhile, agent
     Joe Cubas' bid for the team "also has been delayed."  Cubas
     "claims he has enough money to buy the team, but sources say
     he continues to seek investors" (MIAMI HERALD, 7/28). 
          SEASON TIX: The Heat said that "most of its 10,000 or
     so" season-ticket holders renewed by last week's deadline. 
     The NHL Panthers have sold "slightly more than 16,000 season
     tickets" in their new 19,088-seat arena "and have 2,800
     additional requests to process" (MIAMI HERALD, 7/27).
