MEDIA NOTES

          Former CBS golf commentator Ben Wright will contribute
     to the syndicated "Golf 2000" with Peter Jacobsen, via a
     segment titled "Quite Wright" beginning with the September
     14 episode (Rudy Martzke, USA TODAY, 7/27).  "Golf 2000" has
     been airing in syndication since June 6 and is broadcast to
     about 85% of the country (Tacoma NEWS-TRIBUNE, 7/25)....CBS
     Sports President Sean McManus said that the net has sold 63%
     of its NFL ad inventory for this fall (HOUSTON CHRONICLE,
     7/27)....As reported Friday, TNN formally announced that it
     will telecast the Pepsi 400 live from Daytona Speedway on
     October 17 during primetime.  The race was originally
     scheduled to air July 4 in primetime on CBS, but was delayed
     due to fires in FL (TNN)....TCI Chair John Malone's
     management of Liberty Media is examined by Geraldine
     Fabrikant of the N.Y. TIMES, who writes that Malone's
     "financial performance has been stunning."  His initial
     investment of $42M in Liberty Media seven years ago would be
     worth more than 40 times that today, or $1.76B, though he
     has sold some shares in the interim (N.Y. TIMES, 7/27). 
          WOMEN IN SPORTS MEDIA: The increasing number of women
     in sports media was examined by Arthur Garcia of the SAN
     ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS under the header, "Media Members Must
     Battle Stereotypes: Doors Open, Microscope Intense For Media
     Women."  NBC's Hannah Storm, on the emergence of women in
     sports broadcasting in the late '80's and early '90's: "ESPN
     was really aggressive hiring women, and all the networks had
     a woman in some capacity.  That trend sort of trickled down
     [to the local level]" (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 7/27).
