Former AFL Commissioner Jim Drucker will be in Kansas
City today to discuss the possibility of bringing a
franchise to that city for the '99 season. In K.C., Jeremy
Crabtree writes, "Despite Drucker's interest .... [AFL]
officials still contend that Lamar Hunt is their foremost
choice" (K.C. STAR, 7/22)....The Larry Holmes-George Foreman
fight scheduled for January 23 will serve to announce the
"start of a union for professional boxers," to support the
need for pensions, health insurance and control over their
careers. Support has been offered from the NBPA, NFLPA and
HBO Sports President Seth Abraham, among others

examines the efforts to establish a women's professional
soccer league in the U.S., and writes, "When it comes to
establishing a league of their own, [women] and their sport
are still getting kicked around" (N.Y. POST, 7/22)....Aldo
Notari, head of baseball's world governing body, on MLB's
participation in the Olympics: "They have their long season.
It's not possible to bring the major leaguers in without the
right accords. I am talking about economic values. There
are huge interests involved in their league. ... If the
owners can reach an agreement with the players first, then
