CHARGING TO SCHOOL: TEAM BUYS TICKETS AS ATTENDANCE REWARD

The Chargers and Qualcomm Corp. have teamed to buy
about 41,000 single-game tickets for the '98 season as an
incentive to kids with "near-perfect" school attendance,
according to Lillian Salazar Leopold of the SAN DIEGO UNION-
TRIBUNE. In the program, called "Touchdowns For Youth," San
Diego-area schools that recorded attendance of 95% or better
last April and May, or increased attendance by at least 2%
from the same period the previous year, will be eligible for
the tickets. Two tickets will be given to fourth- through
12th-graders with good attendance at the participating
schools. With the donated tickets averaging $42 per seat,
     the incentive is a $1.75M gift (S.D. UNION-TRIBUNE, 7/20).
