NOTHING BUT (HOT) AIR? RIGHTS ACTIVISTS WONDER ABOUT JORDAN

          Human rights activists are "asking what's become of
     Michael Jordan's pledge to check out labor practices at Nike
     plants in Asia," according to Rush & Molloy of the N.Y.
     DAILY NEWS.  In December, Jordan "vowed" to tour the Asian
     plants by July, but a Bulls rep told Rush & Molloy, "at this
     point, we have no confirmation on dates for his trip."  Jeff
     Ballinger of the advocacy group Press For Change, said that
     Jordan has "got to keep his promise," and added that
     although factory leaders "might not give Jordan an honest
     look at work conditions," a visit by him would give workers
     "hope they've never had before" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 7/19).
