L.A. TIMES REPORT HAD DILLER IN TALKS WITH THE PEACOCK

7.16.1998

          USA Networks Chair Barry Diller "held primary
     discussions in the last month" with GE Corp. about "merging"
     NBC and USA in a stock swap that would be valued at
     "between" $15-20B, according to sources "close to the talks"
     as cited by Sallie Hofmeister of the L.A. TIMES.  Sources
     say that discussions between the two parties "abruptly
     ended" because Segram Co. CEO Edgar Bronfman "refused to go
     along with the idea."  Segram owns 45% of USA.  Neither NBC,
     Segram or Diller would comment (L.A. TIMES, 7/16).
