ABL CHAMPIONSHIP GOES NATIONAL WITH CBS SPORTS AGREEMENT

CBS Sports has reached a two-year agreement with the
ABL to broadcast Games One and Three of the ABL Championship
Series beginning in '99. ABL CEO Gary Cavalli, in a
release: "This is a real breakthrough for the ABL. ... One
of our goals for the 1998-99 season was to increase our
television exposure to include major network coverage. ...
This agreement accomplishes that goal and represents another
milestone in the growth and development of the league. It's
very positive news for our fans, our players and our
sponsors" (CBS Sports). Terms of the deal were unavailable.
The ABL, which was televised "primarily" on Fox Sports Net
last season, will announce the rest of its TV package next
week. Fox "is apparently still in the picture," as are
other cable networks (Lori Riley, HARTFORD COURANT, 7/15).
