Brazil star player Ronaldo said he "suffered a convulsive seizure" just hours before the Final, and there "have been suggestions" that Nike, which has a 10-year contract with Brazil and an 11-year deal with Ronaldo's Inter Milan team, "intervened and forced [Brazil coach Mario] Zagallo to put his injured star in for the start of the game," according to a CANADIAN PRESS report. Nike released a statement in response to "rumors circulating" that said, "Nike wants to emphasize that the report of such involvement is absolutely false" (CP/TORONTO STAR, 7/14).
