MEDIA NOTES

          USA TODAY's Rudy Martzke reports that ABC is
     contemplating operating its "MNF" pregame show, featuring
     Chris Berman and Frank Gifford, "out of the ESPN Zone
     restaurant that opens Sunday" in Baltimore.  ABC
     spokesperson Mark Mandel said the network is "considering"
     the idea, but added that "nothing's been decided" (USA
     TODAY, 7/10).  ESPN's "Up Close" yesterday broadcast from
     ESPN Zone.  ESPN will air Sunday's grand opening of the Zone
     live at 12:30pm ET ("Up Close," ESPN, 7/9)....The Univ. of
     NC has expanded its radio and TV programs scheduled for the
     '98-99 school sports year.  NC-based VilCom, which owns
     UNC's broadcast rights, has added two Tar Heel-related TV
     shows to its fall schedule, including a series about the
     school's women's soccer program.  VilCom paid $10.5M to UNC
     for the broadcast rights over five years (NEWS & OBSERVER,
     7/10)....The Association of Professional Team Physicians
     (PTP) has linked with ESPN SportsZone and will help develop
     the Web site's new "Training Room" fitness section (PTP).
