          NIKE QUESTIONS TIGER WOODS STORY: Nike Communications
     Manager Robin Carr-Locke wrote a Letter to the Editor of the
     Portland Oregonian, in response to the paper's July 8 piece 
     titled, "Tiger Woods Product Line Is Nike Bogey."  In the
     letter, Carr-Locke wrote the story quotes "employees who no
     longer work for Nike" and offers "not a single point of view
     from our company, which does a disservice to your readers." 
     Carr-Locke: "The fact is that our first Tiger Woods line has
     been moderately successful" (THE DAILY).
          DEALS: MA-based Woolf Associates will be the marketing
     agency for Bruins F's Jason Allison and Rob DiMaio and
     former Bruin Willie O'Ree.  Woolf Assistant Dir of Athlete
     Marketing Kim Parsons will handle the trio (Woolf)....NY-
     based Cohn & Wolfe will provide media relations and
     strategic counseling for the National Golf Foundation in the
     development of its state of the industry report,
     "Opportunities for Golf Through 2010: A Strategic
     Perspective by the National Golf Foundation" (C&W). 
          NOTES: Nassau County, NY, officials are looking to
     "boost" ticket sales to the Goodwill Games by running radio
     spots promoting the event.  Organizers say that "only about"
     175,000 to 180,000 of the 600,000 tickets available have
     been sold (NEWSDAY, 7/10)....adidas-Salomon AG "will in two
     to three weeks" begin a review of its int'l media planning
     and buying agreements (AD AGE, 7/10).
