SLOC SETS JOKLIK PAY; USOC HITS 73% OF AD SALES GOAL
Published July 10, 1998
The SLOC set President Frank Joklik's salary at
$280,000 annually, "roughly" $50,000 a year less than paid
to former SLOC President Tom Welch, according to Mike
Gorrell of the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. No benefits were granted
and Welch "will not be paid" for overtime hours he has
accrued. R. Don Cash, head of SLOC's compensation sub-
committee: "Frank Joklik was not interested in making money
on the Olympics. [He] did request that we be very frugal"
(SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 7/10). In other news, SLOC and the
USOC's joint marketing effort has raised $588M, 73% of its
stated $806M goal to be reached by August 1, '99. Also,
Cindy Gillespie has "reconsidered her decision to resign" as
SLOC VP Federal Relations (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 7/10).
TORONTO'S BID: Toronto City Council voted 51-1 last
night to ratify the city's bid agreement with the Canadian
Olympic Assn. Toronto Mayor Mel Lastman, on hosting the
2008 Games: "As long as Capetown stays out of it and South
America, we walk way with (the Games)" (TORONTO STAR, 7/10).
