     that NCAA Exec Dir CEDRIC DEMPSEY received a $150,000 raise
     in one year, "an increase few NCAA members knew anything
     about, scores of NCAA family members are seeking a more
     formal evaluation process" (K.C. STAR, 6/28)....JOHN MCENROE
     joined THE PRETENDERS onstage for one number last Wednesday
     at Radio City Music Hall (N.Y. POST, 6/27)....In DC, more
     than 500 guests showed at the JW Marriott Hotel on Friday
     for the kick-off dinner for the DIKEMBE MUTOMBO FOUNDATION,
     formed last year to direct attention and funds to health
     care concerns in Mutombo's native home in Congo (WASHINGTON
     POST, 6/29)....Bills QB DOUG FLUTIE was a guest columnist in

     to benefit Flutie's autistic son DOUGIE, tomorrow night at

     6/28)....TOMMY HILFIGER was profiled in cover story of the
