LET THE SUNSHINE IN: BOWL DAYDREAMS OF NEW TITLE SPONSOR

The Sunshine Football Classic, formerly the Carquest
Bowl, has signed a two-year deal with the Big Ten football
conference to go along with its pact with the ACC, according
to Susan Miller Degnan of the MIAMI HERALD. The game will
now feature the No. 6 selection from the Big Ten vs. the No.
4 pick from the ACC, December 29 at Pro Player Stadium. The
game "is still seeking a title sponsor," after Carquest, the
bowl's title sponsor since '94, opted not to renew its
contract with Raycom Sports. Raycom, however, has
subcontracted a three-year TV deal with TBS through 2001.
Sunshine Classic Exec Dir Mitch Morrall: "The future of the
game is safe for the next three years with our TV deal.
Raycom Sports has assured me the game will continue with or
without a title sponsor." This year's payout will award
$750,000 to each team (MIAMI HERALD, 6/16).
