HARTFORD WANTS ANOTHER SHOT AT THE SHOW, DOES IT MEASURE UP?

In a front-page story in the HARTFORD COURANT, sub-
titled, "Whalers Loss Hurt, But Hartford Still Dreams Of
Big-League Glory," Desmond Conner reported that Hartford's
chances of getting another major league team "are hurt by
its relatively small population base, and the question of
fan support, especially if the team started to lose."
Conner compared the Hartford market to the 10 smallest NFL
markets. On the positive side for Hartford is its TV market
size and the high per capita income of $30,473. Negatives
include the third lowest population (1,112,600) in relation
to the 10 smallest NFL markets and the highest cost of
living index (Desmond Conner, HARTFORD COURANT, 6/13).
