X MARKS THE SPOT AS SAN DIEGO PREPARES FOR ESPN'S GAMES

The X Games begin June 19 in San Diego and ESPN will
provide nearly 40 hours of event programming, along with
publicity for the city over the course of the 10-day event,
according to Caitlin Rother of the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE.
About 450 athletes will compete in the alternative sports
competition -- events "geared primarily toward young, TV-
watching males but also drawing whole families to view the
action in person" (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 6/10).
THE X FILES: ESPN will use Princeton Video Image's
(PVI) L-VIS system during the X Games. Fourteen of the
event's sponsors are scheduled to use PVI's system,
including Mountain Dew, Taco Bell, AT&T, Chevy S-10 Pick-
up/Pontiac Sunfire, Snickers/Starburst, Pringles, the U.S.
Marines, Visa, Touchstone Pictures' Armageddon, AC Delco,
Lee Jeans, Sony Corp., Sony Electronics and Speed Stick
Ultimate (PVI)....ESPN will use SporTVision Systems' AIRf/x
technology during the Games to calculate elevation achieved
by in-line skaters, bikers and skateboarders (THE DAILY).
