CLIPPED BY THE WINGS: VIPERS UPSET OVER NO GAME CHANGE

IHL Detroit Vipers GM Rick Dudley "was furious" that
the Chicago Wolves wouldn't agree to switch Game Five of the
IHL's Turner Cup finals to tonight so it wouldn't compete
with Game One of last night's Stanley Cup Finals, according
to Roman Modrowski of the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES. Dudley: "They
cost us between $50,000 to $100,000. We can't draw against
the Red Wings. In Detroit, the Red Wings are No. 1. I'm
amazed they said no. For me, it's sad because we're all
partners." The Vipers drew 10,276 at The Palace at Auburn
Hills for Sunday's Game Four, while last night's Game Five
drew 6,507. Wolves GM Kevin Cheveldayoff said the decision
"was punctuated by a dollar sign." Cheveldayoff: "You're
talking about 40 plane tickets, hotel rooms and per diems.
From a financial standpoint, it would have cost us money."
Dudley: "That's ludicrous. Obviously, we would have taken
care of their expenses" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 6/10).
