TAMPA SPORTS AUTHORITY DISAGREEING OVER LEADERSHIP QUALITY

At "least" three members of the Tampa Sports Authority
(TSA) are "frustrated with the performance" of TSA Exec Dir
Henry Saavedra, according to David Pedreira of the TAMPA
TRIBUNE. Their "reaction appears to stem from a recent audit
of the authority's financial controls and from incidents
since Saavedra took over." One board member, Hillsborough
County Commissioner Jim Norman, wants Saavedra "to be put on
a six-month probation." But Pedreira writes that "that view
isn't shared" by some other TSA members, who gave Saavedra
"glowing remarks for his first few months." In an
evaluation, three members "were openly critical" of Saavedra,
while four rated him "exceptional" to "outstanding."
Evaluations are still forthcoming and Saavedra said he will
wait to comment until they are done (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 5/20).
