with a 10% increase to return to HBO's "Inside the NFL" (USA

DC-area cable companies to clear two channels whenever there
is a Capitals playoff game conflicting with an Orioles game.
After confusion on Monday when HTS aired both events,
today's Washington Post lists a channel guide for both of
tonight's games for each area cable system (WASHINGTON POST,
5/13)....SportsTicker will distribute University Wire's
college sports coverage. The partnership will launch in
August, prior to the '98-99 football season. The deal marks
the first time sports coverage from U.S. college newspapers
will be distributed through one standard feed to sports
publishers (SportsTicker)....Former Univ. of TX men's
basketball coach Tom Penders has signed with Host
Communications to do TV, radio and consulting work. Penders
will also "audition with ESPN (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 5/13).
CLARIFICATION ON MASON AND ESPN: The Charlotte Observer
printed a clarification today regarding its report on
Anthony Mason's appearance on "Up Close." ESPN's Chris
Myers said that "no ground rules were agreed to prior" to
Monday's scheduled interview, where Mason walked off the set
after questions regarding statutory rape charges pending
against him in NY (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 5/13).
