AUTHORITY ENDORSES ALLEN'S PREFERRED SITE FOR SEAHAWKS NEST

The WA Public Stadium Authority yesterday endorsed a
plan that would tear down the Kingdome and replace it with
the new $425M "open-air football and soccer stadium and
exposition center favored by" Seahawks Owner Paul Allen,
according to Angelo Bruscas of the SEATTLE POST-
INTELLIGENCER. The recommendation calls for construction of
the new stadium on the existing site of the Kingdome, which
would be imploded. The 325,000-square-foot expo center
would be constructed on what is now the Kingdome's south
parking lot. The authority's board will vote on the
proposal on Thursday, and Bob Collier, project manager for
First & Goal, Allen's stadium development arm, said his
organization is "pretty happy" about the decision. The
project is expected to begin by the year 2000, with the
stadium opening in 2002. Taxpayer contribution to the
stadium cost is limited to $300M, with Allen responsible for
paying the balance (SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER, 4/24).
