Tiger Woods has "inked yet another seven-figure deal,
signing to develop personal-care products for Unilever,"
according to Terry Lefton of BRANDWEEK. Lefton writes that
as a "testimony to Woods' drawing power," the deal does not
grant Unilever "traditional endorsement rights, but rather
the right to discuss and develop fragrance and other
personal care product lines with Woods for the remainder of
this year, locking out competitors." Lefton reports that
"if a deal is struck, the target date for any Tiger personal
care products" to hit the market would be the end of '99.
One source put the deal in the $1.5M "ballpark," before any
specific product endorsement is signed (BRANDWEEK, 4/20).
FROM THE TOP: Harper Collins will release Earl Woods'
new book, "Playing Through: Straight Talk On Hard Work, Big
Dreams, and Adventures with Tiger," co-written with the
Chicago Tribune's Fred Mitchell. In it, Earl Woods
discusses his son's endorsements: "The money is meaningless,
Tiger could have three times the endorsement dollars if he
moved like so many other young athletes; get every quarter
you can get and run" (Harper Collins).
